How pricing works

The cost follows the work—not an arbitrary package.

We price custom eLearning based on the effort required to design, build, test, and deliver it properly. That gives you a more useful estimate than charging a flat amount per slide or guessing from course duration alone.

The important bit Two 30-minute courses can require completely different levels of instructional design and development.

Source material readiness

Approved, organized content is faster to convert than rough notes, duplicated slides, or material that still needs subject-matter review and restructuring.

Slide decks PDFs SOPs Existing courses

Instructional design

A direct content conversion requires less design work than a course that needs learning objectives, storyboarding, scenario design, assessment strategy, or a completely new structure.

Learning objectives Storyboarding Assessments

Build complexity

Standard interactions and knowledge checks are efficient to produce. Branching scenarios, software simulations, custom animation, voiceover, and advanced interactions require more development and QA.

Delivery requirements

Accessibility, localization, SCORM packaging, LMS testing, reporting requirements, and stakeholder review rounds all affect the final production effort.

Project estimator

Build a useful budget in about two minutes.

Answer five practical questions about your project. We’ll calculate a planning range based on typical production effort and our standard $110 CAD hourly rate.

Question 01 of 05

What kind of project are you planning?

Choose the option that most closely matches the work you need.

Question 02 of 05

Approximately how long will the finished course be?

Choose the expected learner seat time, not the length of the source material.

Question 03 of 05

How interactive should the course feel?

Think about what learners need to do—not merely what would look impressive.

Question 04 of 05

How ready is the source content?

Be honest. Rough material is completely workable—it simply requires more design time.

Question 05 of 05

What else should the estimate include?

Select everything that applies. You can also continue without adding an extra requirement.

Example project scopes

What different investment levels can look like.

These are practical examples rather than fixed packages. Your final scope depends on the source material, learning requirements, technical complexity, and delivery needs.

Typical range $2,500–$4,000 CAD
Scope 01

Focused content conversion

Best for approved source material that needs to become a clear, professional, LMS-ready course without extensive learning redesign.

  • Approximately 10–20 minutes of learning
  • Standard interactions and knowledge checks
  • SCORM packaging and basic technical QA
Typical range $4,500–$8,000 CAD
Scope 02

Custom course development

A more complete build involving instructional design, a tailored visual approach, and interactions designed around the learner’s job.

  • Approximately 20–45 minutes of learning
  • Storyboarding, scenarios, and custom layouts
  • Accessibility and LMS validation as scoped
Typical range $8,000–$15,000+ CAD
Scope 03

Advanced learning program

Intended for longer or multi-module programs with complex decision-making, technical simulations, multiple deliverables, or broader rollout requirements.

  • Advanced branching or software simulation
  • Voiceover, localization, or multiple versions
  • Expanded QA and stakeholder review cycles

Estimates exclude applicable taxes and third-party costs such as professional voice talent, paid stock assets, or translation services unless specifically included in the scope.

Pricing questions

The details people usually want before moving forward.

Clear expectations make for better projects. Here is how estimates, payments, revisions, and changes generally work at Hiveminds.

Standard rate $110 CAD per hour
Typical project $2,500–$10,000+
Project start Usually a 50% deposit
How accurate is the online project estimator?

It is designed to provide a realistic planning range based on common production effort and our standard hourly rate. It is not a formal quote. Final pricing is confirmed after we review your source material, technical requirements, expected deliverables, and timeline.

Do you offer fixed project pricing or bill hourly?

We can work either way. Clearly defined projects are often quoted at a fixed amount based on the approved scope. Projects with evolving content, uncertain requirements, or ongoing production support may be billed at our standard rate of $110 CAD per hour.

What is included in a formal quote?

The quote identifies the deliverables, responsibilities, production assumptions, review process, technical outputs, timeline, and payment schedule. If SCORM packaging, accessibility, LMS testing, voiceover, or localization is included, it will be listed directly rather than hidden inside vague wording.

How do deposits and payments work?

Most fixed-scope projects begin with a 50% deposit, with the remaining balance due at completion. Larger engagements may be divided into milestone payments. The payment schedule is confirmed in the proposal before work begins.

What happens if the scope changes during the project?

Small clarifications are part of normal collaboration. If a request materially changes the approved content, functionality, timeline, or deliverables, we will identify the impact before proceeding. Additional work is either approved as a scope change or billed at the agreed hourly rate.

Are voice talent, stock assets, and translation included?

Third-party costs are not automatically included. Professional voice talent, licensed stock media, translation services, or other external expenses are shown separately when required. Integration, formatting, and technical production performed by Hiveminds can be included directly in the project scope.
